Intriguing Jaire Alexander replacement may have just fallen into Packers' lap

It'd certainly be a bold move.

We here at Lombardi Avenue simply will not stop until we have willed a Jaire Alexander replacement into existence.

Despite all the overwhelming evidence – mainly, that Alexander is still cashing Packers checks – that he may not be headed somewhere else after all, that's not the type of story that pays the bills. Mock trades and intriguing replacements are far more fun than, 'they put aside their differences and figured it out,' even if the latter is probably a much better idea.

Fortunately, the league is full of teams who don't really know what they're doing. A great example of that? The Miami Dolphins, who have reportedly allowed star cornerback Jalen Ramsey to explore a trade this offseason.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the news early on Tuesday morning, just in time for everyone to wake up, caffeinate, and start speculating. And obviously, Packers fans weren't going to miss out on Jalen Ramsey speculation.

Jalen Ramsey could be the Jaire Alexander replacement the Packers are looking for

"The Dolphins and seven-time Pro Bowl CB Jalen Ramsey are mutually set to explore trade options and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he played elsewhere in 2025, per me and Tom Pelissero," Rapoport said. "Miami and Ramsey, due $25.1M fully guaranteed this season, could be parting ways."

I do have to admit, on paper at least, that an Alexander-for-Ramsey trade is fun. It's the type of thing you pull off in Madden and feel great about. There are a few, uh, notable problems in the way, however.

First of all, Jalen Ramsey makes a ton of money. That's not a problem per se, as much as it's an obstacle for Brian Gutekunst and the rest of the Packers' front office. Ramsey's on the hook for a cap hit of over $26 million this upcoming season, which may technically not be a total dealbreaker for Green Bay, but I'd bet it's close!

With that being said, it's right around Alexander's cap hit this season ($24 million), so maybe there's something to the idea after all? All the conversation about Ramsey being washed feels a little premature – his PFF overall grade in 2025 was 16th best among all CBs (out of 222), and he finished with a top-10 run defense grade (85.7) too.

He's not necessarily The Guy anymore, and his year-over-year stats look a little concerning, but he'd still be an upgrade for Green Bay's secondary the moment he arrived.

Right now, it feels a little more like a video game trade than a realistic one, but the blueprint's there. And when it happens, I'll cut the team a break and only take 5% commission.
