Is There A Jack Crusher Mistake In Wesley's Star Trek Comeback?

Jack Crusher's appearance in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's finale left some viewers who watched Star Trek: Picard season 3 wondering if there is a mistake with young Jack's accent. Written by Kevin and Dan Hageman and Aaron J. Waltke, and directed by Ruolin Li, Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's finale saw Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) help the young Starfleet hopefuls of the USS Protostar save every Star Trek timeline. Prodigy season 2's ending also resolved the pivotal question of whether Wesley would ever visit his mother, Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden).

Wesley Crusher made a surprise cameo in Star Trek: Picard season 2's finale, but Wes did not appear in Star Trek: Picard season 3, which introduced Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers). Jack is Beverly's son with Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), which makes him Wesley's younger half-brother. Jack finally met his father in Star Trek: Picard season 3, and by the end of the series, Jean-Luc and Jack formed a bond, and a new family unit with Beverly, A chip off the old black, Jack Crusher has a British accent just like his Starfleet legend father.

Why Jack Crusher Doesn’t Have A British Accent When He Meets Wesley In Star Trek: Prodigy

Picard season 3 explains Jack's accent

In Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's finale, Wesley Crusher finally visits his mother, Beverly, who introduces him to his little brother, Jack. When Jack says hello to Wesley, he doesn't have a British accent. However, this is not a mistake.Star Trek: Picard season 3 established that Beverly and Jack moved to London, where Picard's son picked up a British accent that he retains in adulthood. But Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 takes place before Beverly and Jack move to London when the Crushers are making their home in Cor Coroli V, Young Jack doesn't yet have a British accent when Wesley meets him.

Jack Crusher's age in Star Trek: Picard season 3 might be a bigger question than his British accent. It's not clear what year Jack was born, but Picard season 3 established that Dr. Crusher left the USS Enterprise-E to give birth to Jack in secret sometime after Star Trek: Nemesis in 2379. Jack must have been born around 2380-2381, and he would be about 20 in Star Trek: Picard season 3, set in 2401. However, Jack comes off as older - Admiral Picard guessed Jack's age to be about 24 - but this was credited to his years of experience in space. Plus, space is vast, and Jack's age may not reflect the 12 months of the year used to tell time on Earth.

Ed Speleers was about 34 when he was cast as Jack Crusher when Star Trek: Picard season 3 filmed in 2022.

Wesley Doesn't Know About Jack Crusher's Borg Destiny In Star Trek: Prodigy

There are limits to what a Traveler knows

Wesley Crusher is a cosmic being who crosses space, time, and realities as the Traveler, but upon meeting Jack Crusher, why didn't Wesley know Jack's destiny to become a Borg? Star Trek: Picard season 3 revealed that Jack inherited organic Borg DNA from his father, stemming from Captain Picard's assimilation to become Locutus of Borg. Jack's Borg connection manifested in waking nightmares that plagued him into adulthood, Finally, the Borg Queen (Alice Krige) assimilated Jack to turn him into Vox of Borg. But thanks to the love of his father, Jack was able to reject his Borg 'inheritance' and help destroy the Borg for good.

Wesley obviously mentally juggles a profound amount of information in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2.

Should Wesley as the Traveler have sensed Jack Crusher's Borg future? One explanation for Wesley missing his brother's Borg infection is that Travelers are concerned with the bigger picture, i.e. protecting space, time, reality, and the multiverse. Travelers utilize Supervisors to protect certain individuals crucial to their universe's timeline. Wesley obviously mentally juggles a profound amount of cosmic information in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, and perhaps the Traveler must focus on the universe instead of family. Or, it's possible Wesley knew something but trusted that Jack Crusher's future was in good hands when he eventually met his father, Jean-Luc Picard.
