The Philadelphia Eagles are strong at essentially every position when compared to the rest of the NFL, but the tight end position remained one of their bigger question marks. The uncertainty surrounding Dallas Goedert created a hole that needed to be filled, and it seems very unlikely that he will be in Philly much longer due to his age.
The Eagles appear to have taken a very scattershot approach to filling out their tight end room for the 2025 season, as they have signed multiple veterans to cheap contracts behind Goedert and established backup Grant Calcaterra. One of those players may not be in Philadelphia for much longer.
The Eagles had previously agreed to a contract with former Minnesota Vikings tight end Nick Muse, who was cut loose in the middle of the 2024 season. Muse's athletic gifts may not be enough to help him make some headway in a very crowded Eagles depth chart.
The Eagles signed former Cleveland Browns pass catcher Harrison Bryant while also pilfering Kylen Granson away from the Indianapolis Colts. Philly's tight end room may not have enough space for Muse, who hasn't shown as much as a pass-catcher at the professional level.
Eagles TE Nick Muse might not make final 53-man roster
Muse didn't have a ton of pass-catching volume in college at South Carolina (67 catches in three years), which led to him going undrafted. However, some draft analysts were very high on his potential to be a backup tight end due to his athleticism and effort as a blocker.
Muse had spent three seasons with the Vikings, though he caught just one pass and was more renowned for his special teams work. His blocking and tackling skills, as good as they are, don't seem to appeal much to an Eagles team prioritizing receiving upside in their backup tight ends.
Bryant was regarded as a poor blocker during both his collegiate and pro career, while Granson's unique skillset helps him profile as more of a receiving tight end or H-back than a traditional in-line player. This could leave Muse frozen out despite reports that he has had a very strong minicamp performance.
Muse might be able to put enough on tape during the preseason to latch on elsewhere. However, unless there are multiple injuries or catastrophically poor performances from players like Bryant and Granson ahead of him, Muse faces long odds of making the Eagles roster.
