'It’s my place,' Stefon Diggs embraces new role as Texans captain post-viral comments on career’s 'worst mental space' with Bills

After a journey that saw him pass through Minneapolis and Buffalo, wide receiver Stefon Diggs has found a new home with the Houston Texans. The 30-year-old veteran is keen to embrace his new position and contribute to the team’s triumph.

Houston Texans' Stefon Diggs opens up on becoming an ex-Bill

The Buffalo Bills traded Diggs in the off-season after the player’s performance declined in the second half of the season. The Bills acquired a 6th round pick in 2024, and second and fifth-round picks in 2025 from the Texans via this trade.

Stefon Diggs has earlier said that the Bills last season took a toll on his mental health. His relation with the Bills HC Sean McDermott wasn’t very pleasing. His brother Trevon Diggs has multiple times raised concerns over him and said there’s a need to get him out of Buffalo.

Last year, I was in the worst mental space I’ve been in since I’ve been in the league. If I’m not in a good space, obviously that’s not the best for me. So that’s when things had to start shaking out. Stefon Diggs told Clay Skipper of GQ

Diggs seemed happy in Houston where he has forged a relationship with CJ Stroud. Considering there was a ballot to elect the team captain, It is to be noted that Diggs has also made a good impression on the players. He also mentioned that Houston has the southern charm which helps him to gain happiness from the place he’s stationed at.

Being here, this is where I am right now. It’s my place and it’s amazing. It’s some great people here. I can say there’s a lot of southern hospitality here. I’m just happy to be where I am. Stefon Diggs said in a recent interview with reporters

Although he is in a good place in Houston currently, his position isn’t. The 30-year-old WR hailing from Maryland has formerly felt the same in Minneapolis and Buffalo before things went sour. The Texans being aware have worked a contract which makes him a free agent after this season. Diggs will have to pull his best performance to stay at “his place” further.

Stefon Diggs and CJ Stroud are becoming best mates at Texas

Well, it looks like Captain Diggs has made up with the quarterback CJ Stroud, whom he had a heated argument with, a month ago. Diggs has previously been close with Josh Allen forming a bond rather quickly and pretty solid. Diggs is aware that good bonding between the wide receiver and quarterback is good for the team.

The two have bonded over a common love for football and a commitment towards family. Diggs said that he and Stroud feel like a family whom he can rely on.

He’s family at this point. Things kind of fall into place how they’re supposed to. I look at him as family, not just my quarterback. I’m rocking with him through thick and thin. I always tell him I am with you when you’re right, I’m with you when you’re wrong. Stefon Diggs said in the locker room

The duo will boot up on Sunday as the Texans play Indianapolis Colts in their first game of the season. The last time the Colts faced the Texans in Week 1 was in 2022 when they tied 20-20.
