J.J. Watt Breaks Silence on NFL’s Controversial Joe Mixon Punishment Ruling

The NFL made a big decision earlier this week, officially rescinding the punishment on Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon that was handed down after the divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mixon was originally fined $25,000 for his comments after the game in which he implied that the officials were not calling the game fairly and tiled their calls towards Patrick Mahomes and the two-time defending champions.

According to Mixon and his agent Pete Scaffer, that quote was misattributed to the Texans running back by Sports Illustrated, apparently duping the NFL into believing it came from Mixon himself - whom they hit with the hefty fine.

Now nearly a month later, the NFL has reversed course. According to a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the league rescinded the $25,000 fine.

J.J. Watt was one of the loudest analysts when voicing his opinion on the matter, acting in disbelief that the NFL would fine Mixon for something like this. The future Hall of Famer criticized the league publicly, saying 'What are we doing here?'

After the fine and punishment were rescinded, Watt weighed in once again.

"Loud with the criticism, loud with the credit," Watt wrote on social media. "Have to give the league credit for correcting a clear mistake. Glad to see it."

The notion that Kansas City was getting beneficial treatment throughout the playoffs started to run rampant, and this was just one of many instances where players, analysts, and fans spoke out about it.

Fortunately, the league went back and corrected their error after all was said and done.
