The Eagles lost two wide receivers to concussions last week against the Patriots — Johnny Wilson during joint practice, and John Ross during the preseason game — and it became increasingly obvious that the WR3 spot still wasn’t completely addressed. So, Howie Roseman does what he does best, and was able to bring in some depth via inter-division trade with the Commanders for Jahan Dotson.
It was a no-brainer for Roseman, who is acutely tuned in to potential additions, and was able to get a first-round player with two years left on his rookie deal. Plus, the Eagles now have a very solid WR3 option, and Dotson played with Saquon Barkley at Penn State and will assuredly get his friend up to speed in Philly.
As much as it was a no-brainer for Philly, Washington’s decision to make the trade to an NFC East rival — regardless of reported tensions between Dotson and the new team management — was a bit surprising. They handed the Eagles a starting lineup of skill players that includes A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dotson, Saquon Barkley, and Dallas Goedert. Great for Eagles fans, not so much for Commanders fans.
A few of Dotson’s new teammates reacted to the trade online, along with other players throughout the league and analysts.

2022: 53rd out of 103 WRs in yards per routes run, 96.6 passer rating when targeted
2023: 94th out of 102 wide receivers in YPRR, 58.2 passer rating when targeted
Eagles clearly counting on him to bounce back with improved supporting cast, especially at QB.
Jahan Dotson as WR3 makes the #Eagles offense so much more complete. Here are a few of my favorite plays by Dotson over the last 2 seasons. pic.twitter.com/35LwEu598C

There are few CB1’s that can line up opposite AJ Brown.

There are fewer CB2’s that can line up opposite DeVonta Smith.
There are no CB1, CB2, CB3’s that can line up opposite Brown, Smith AND Dotson.
Kellen Moore has coordinated two, #1 offenses. This year will be #3. #Eagles https://t.co/Z3Lun9XQGP
