Janeway's Final Admiral's Log Is A Deep Cut Star Trek: Nemesis Easter Egg

Admiral Kathryn Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) final log in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's finale is a deep-cut Star Trek: Nemesis Easter egg, reveals co-executive producer Aaron J. Waltke. In Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, episode 20, "Ouroboros, Part II", which was written by Waltke and Kevin and Dan Hageman, Admiral Janeway composes a personal log entry where she says, “An old friend once said we do not feel the passage of time, but the presence of time within us. We grow from what we leave behind as we reach for what lies ahead.”

Star Trek: Prodigy co-executive producer Aaron J. Waltke joined Screen Rant for a deep-dive into the Star Trek lore in season 2. Waltke pointed out with pride that Admiral Janeway's log in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's finale is a callback to a deleted scene from Star Trek: Nemesis where Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Commander Data (Brent Spiner) discuss the passage of time. Janeway paraphrases Picard's words about "the passage of time and the presence of time within us." Read Aaron's quote and watch the deleted scene from Star Trek: Nemesis below:

I just wanted to say that one of my favorite Easter eggs that we threw into Janeway’s Admiral's log was a very deep cut allusion to the DVD extras of Nemesis, [which] has a deleted scene in which you hear Picard and Data sort of ruminating on the nature of time. It was such a beautiful scene, and I was like, ‘It's too bad that's not canon.’ And so, when you hear Janeway, who we've seen at the beginning of Nemesis is like, ‘Hello, Jean-Luc,’ so they're clearly have become friends, she says, ‘An old friend once told me that we're not affected by the passage of time, but the presence of time within us.’ She's, in fact, alluding to something that Picard has supposedly told her. But go back and watch the scene. It's a beautiful scene.

Admiral Janeway & Picard's Star Trek Friendship Explained

They've only shared the screen once together

Star Trek: Nemesis established that Captain Picard and Admiral Janeway became friends after she guided the USS Voyager back to Earth following 7 years in the Delta Quadrant. Janeway was promoted to Vice Admiral in 2379, and it was Kathryn who gave Jean-Luc orders to go to Romulus in Star Trek: Nemesis. As of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, Janeway didn't see Picard again after Nemesis. Jean-Luc received his promotion to Admiral in 2381 when he left the USS Enterprise-E to lead the United Federation of Planets' aborted mission to rescue the Romulans from their sun going supernova.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 also saw the first meeting between Admiral Janeway and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). Janeway told Crusher she hasn't seen Picard since "the Shinzon incident" of Star Trek: Nemesis.

Despite only sharing the screen once, Admiral Janeway and Admiral Picard have spoken of each other fondly. Janeway mentions Jean-Luc a couple of times in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, as well as paraphrasing his deleted scene from Star Trek: Nemesis. Admiral Picard has returned the favor by name-dropping Janeway in Star Trek: Picard. Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) even stalked Admiral Janeway after she was expelled from Starfleet following the Mars Attack of 2385. Perhaps Star Trek: Prodigy season 3, if it happens, can score a coup of bringing Admiral Picard and Admiral Janeway together once more.
