Jared Goff has happily turned the Detroit Lions into a Super Bowl contender. All following the blockbuster Jan. 2021 trade . Yet that Goff/Matthew Stafford swap still lingers over him to this day.

Jared Goff Admits he Felt 'Betrayed' by Sean McVay, Rams After Trade to Lions

Goff himself has shared a blunt reaction to the past deal that shook up the league. Admitting he felt "betrayed" by the Los Angeles Rams and head coach Sean McVay.

The Lions' star quarterback reflected back on that move during his appearance on the new season of "Quarterback" on Netflix, which is now streaming. Goff didn't mince words about being caught off guard by the phone call from McVay.

"Three weeks after the last game of the season, get a call from Sean and really did not expect anything," he explains. "He lets me know they're trading me to Detroit and I'm like, 'Whoa, OK, all right. What the hell? What's happening?'"

Goff later learned that the news of the trade flooded Twitter. He includes he felt the betrayal from the Rams.

"You feel like you've been betrayed, or like, you're not wanted. And I think for me, ultimately, it was the fact that there was not a conversation had and there wasn't like a, 'Hey, we're thinking of moving on'-type of thing. There was nothing," Goff admits. "You wish that it wasn't such a blindside and you wish that there was some sort of maturity, I guess, to have that conversation and to be able to let me know what’s going on and how things went down and why this is happening.”

McVay, meanwhile, has admitted over the years that he regretted how he handled the trade. Particularly moving as quick as he did without being upfront with Goff.

Meanwhile, Goff has gotten the better end of the Rams-Lions series by guiding two victories over L.A. -- including ending Detroit's playoff victory drought during the 2023 season.
