Jax Taylor is opening up about his mental health journey following his time in an in-patient facility.
How to Watch
The Valley cast member took to his Instagram page on September 2 to share that he had been diagnosed "with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD."
"A little over a month ago, I checked into an intensive inpatient treatment facility scared of the unknown and what I would find out about myself," Jax wrote in his Instagram caption alongside a black and white photo of him reading on the couch. "After many years of knowing something was wrong but not knowing exactly what it was, I recently learned that I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD."
Jax added that "it's been a lot to process" and it's been "an emotional time" for him.
"However I’ve come home to my son with a newfound sense of peace. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared for the future but my focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday," he continued. "Mental health is a lifelong battle of not letting it control you but rather you learning to control it."
In the rest of his caption, Jax thanked his followers who have "reached out in support" and who have "shared their own personal struggles" with him.
"Your messages have helped me more than you know," he concluded.
Jax Taylor's mental health treatment journey
About a month before sharing his recent diagnosis, Jax's representative confirmed that the Vanderpump Rules alum had checked himself into treatment for mental health-related struggles.
Shortly after Jax's decision to seek treatment was publicized, he took to Instagram on July 31 to post a photo of him holding his son, Cruz Michael Cauchi.
"Working on getting better for you and myself buddy, I love you," Jax wrote.
On August 19, his representative released a statement to PEOPLE about Jax's plan to leave treatment and return home.
"Jax has spent the last 30 days in treatment and will be heading back home later this week,” his rep shared in a statement to the outlet on August 19. "It’s been an emotional month for him and he’s most looking forward to spending time with his son."
Days after Jax came home, his wife, Brittany Cartwright, filed for divorce. The couple separated in February 2024 after less than five years of marriage.
