The Washington Commanders pulled off a stunning 36-33 comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, snapping their opponent's 10-game winning streak and denying them an NFC East championship celebration.
Leading the charge was rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, whose calm demeanor and stellar performance proved crucial in overcoming significant obstacles.
“[Dan Quinn] talked about this all week. We want to be one of the heavy hitters, we gotta beat the top dogs,” Daniels told Fox NFL's Pam Oliver, reflecting on the team’s mindset.
Trailing by 14 points early and facing a 13-point deficit entering the fourth quarter, the Commanders showed resilience. Daniels delivered three touchdown passes in the final quarter, including the game-winning throw to Jamison Crowder with just six seconds left.
"No, not at all," he said when asked if he doubted the team's ability to mount a comeback.
"I love those types of situations. When it's on thin ice and plays need to be made, that's what you live for if you really love this sport."
Jayden Daniels finished the game with five touchdown passes, making history as the first rookie quarterback to achieve five passing touchdowns and over 65 rushing yards in a single NFL game. Despite throwing two interceptions earlier, he showcased unwavering confidence.
Daniels completed 24 of 39 passes for 258 yards and led Washington’s rushing attack with 81 yards on nine carries.
Sunday’s victory also marked a historic achievement for the franchise, as Daniels became the first Commanders quarterback to throw five touchdowns in a game since 1991, the team’s last Super Bowl-winning season, according to CBS.
