Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed had himself a game on Friday night in Brazil against the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite the 34-29 loss against the Eagles, Reed proved to be the best playmaker for the Packers offense on the field.
The former Michigan State Spartans wide receiver caught four passes for 138 yards receiving and one touchdown. He caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love in the second quarter. He also had a 33-yard rushing touchdown for the Packers earlier in the second quarter.
Jayden Reed Appears To Be Wide Receiver Number 1 For the Green Bay Packers
Reed and Bo Melton were the only wide receivers on the Packers roster a season ago who had over 100 yards receiving in a single game. Reed didn’t eclipse it until Week 18 of last season and he already matched that total in Week 1 of this season.
No wide receiver on the roster last year went over 1,000 yards receiving, but that could very well change this season. Reed is in his second NFL season with the Packers. He was the second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft from Michigan State. His versatility shows in the passing game and running game.
Romeo Doubs caught four passes for 50 yards receiving and Christian Watson caught three passes for 13 yards receiving and one touchdown. Watson is perfect as the third receiver option for the Packers. Reed and Doubs as the 1-2 punch will work for Green Bay.
Jordan Love Out With an Injury
What might hurt Jayden Reed for the next few weeks is that quarterback Jordan Love is out with a sprained MCL. Will Reed still be the top receiving option for quarterback Malik Willis? Well, Jayden Reed feels as if there is no true number-one wide receiver in the offense on a week-to-week basis. Reed told Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated at the end of the game on Friday night by saying:
“With this room, it’s any given week. Anybody can make those plays I made today in the room. So, we’re very dynamic in that room, so I don’t look at it as a Wide Receiver 1 thing. I think we all are 1s if you ask me.”
It will be interesting to see who Malik Willis gets the football to the most in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. No matter who is behind center for the Green Bay Packers, Jayden Reed needs the football in his hands moving forward.
