Jaylen Brown joined Celtics teammate Jayson Tatum as an Eastern Conference All-Star on Thursday night with the wing selected as a reserve by NBA coaches. It is the fourth All-Star selection for Brown over the last five seasons.
Brown has enjoyed a new level of respect around the NBA this year coming off being named MVP of the NBA Finals and he’s been a key part of Boston’s 33-15 start to begin the year. Brown’s averaging a 23.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and a career-high 4.8 assists per game over 41 appearances.
Brown will be a reserve behind Tatum who was selected as a starter last week along with Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns and Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo in East frontcourt. Knicks guard Jalen Brunson and Cavs guard Donovan Mitchell will round out the East backcourt starters.

The NBA unveiled a new All-Star format this year which will feature a mini-tournament with four teams and three games. Each team will have eight players. Inside the NBA commentators Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith will be the honorary general managers for three teams that will be drafted on Thursday Feb. 6 and the fourth team will be the winning team from the championship game of the Rising Stars, a showcase of first and second-year NBA players and G-League standouts, which includes Celtics two-way guard JD Davison.
The four teams competing in the All-Star Game will be competing for a prize pool of $1.8 million with each player on the winning team receiving $125,000.
