Jazz Chisholm Jr. has bigger things to worry about than the one-game suspension hanging over his head.
The New York Yankees second baseman, who was ejected during Thursday's extra-innings loss to the Rays after firing off a now-deleted social media post mid-game, offered little clarity when asked for an update on the appeal process after Monday night's loss to the Guardians.
"I don't know," Chisholm told reporters. "I don't think we've finished it yet. I think it's set for, like, another day, a week or so. I don't know, but it's around there. Just focused on playing baseball right now."
According to an NJ.com report over the weekend, Chisholm's appeal was expected to be heard Thursday, which happens to be a scheduled off day for the Yankees. The league nor Chisholm has confirmed a final date publicly.
Monday night, Chisholm took a 0-for-13 slump and a .157 batting average into Cleveland. He finally snapped his streak with a two-run home run off Paul Sewald in the Yankees' 6-2 loss. It was his seventh home run of the season.
Chisholm's suspension stems from a controversial ninth-inning ejection that quickly spiraled into one of the week's most talked-about moments. After being called out on strikes by home plate umpire John Bacon, Chisholm vehemently argued. Statcast showed the ball was low. Bacon gave Chisholm two warnings before ejecting him.
Chisholm wasn't done, though.
He went back to the clubhouse and tweeted that the ball was "not even (expletive) close."
MLB issued a one-game suspension the next day for violating the league's social media conduct code.
Chisholm is allowed to continue to play through the appeal process. He also received a fine.
