Jeffrey Dean Morgan Teases a “Different Side” of Negan in ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Season 2

Not long after The Walking Dead boss Scott M. Gimple said he believes the franchise could extend into the 2040s and potentially even beyond, the future of the zombie-ridden universe just got another exciting update. Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars in and reprises his role as Negan in The Walking Dead: Dead City, which is set to air its second season on May 4. The show is a sequel to the original Walking Dead series that follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) as they travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan that has long been cut off from the outside world. During a recent interview with ScreenRant, Morgan recently previewed Negan’s arc in the upcoming second season, teasing how he’s become softer since we first met him in The Walking Dead:

"With Dead City, I don't know that it's the last year at all, but I think it's forming this character who, when we first met him, was the worst person in the world. And as time has gone by, we see a different side of him."

He also spoke about his Neighborhood Watch co-star Jack Quaid, likening their characters as polar opposites and teasing where the story in The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 is heading:

"Jack [Quaid] kind of plays characters that on the outside are really good, and then he's got this dark side. I'm the exact opposite. I always come out of the box real f--king dark, and then you find out that there's another side to him. I think that this year, we'll find out yet another side of Negan and his relationship, and how that works with Maggie in this world of post-apocalyptic New York. And, you know, the story continues. It's going to be a fun year.

Morgan’s new movie with Jack Quaid is now playing in select theaters, and it’s also available on digital platforms. Collider recently debuted an exclusive clip from the film showing Morgan’s character in trouble as Quaid’s character comes to his aid. Morgan has also been extremely busy of late, recently joining the Invincible universe to lend his voice to the role of Conquest. This came not long after he officially joined The Boys universe as Joe Kessler, who was at one point a comrade of Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) but is now just his alter ego. Morgan will also star alongside Famke Janssen and Denis O’Hare in The Postcard Killer from writer Luke Garrett.
