Jeremy Swayman implicated in blockbuster hypothetical trade scenario

Jeremy Swayman is one of the best goaltenders in the world right now, however, he is currently stuck in a bad contract situation with the Boston Bruins.

Overall, Swayman wants eight years and $10 million per year. However, the Bruins only have $8.6 million in cap space, and they don't want to use it all on a goaltender. Consequently, it has been reported that Bruins only offered Swayman a pathetic total of $6.2 million per year for just a four-year term.

With all of this drama going on, NHL Trade Rumour decided to come through with a hypothetical trade proposal. They argue that the Colorado Avalanche could trade Sam Girard and Alexander Georgiev to the Bruins in return for Swayman.

'For the Bruins, Georgiev has led the league in wins over the past two seasons. He would provide a solid veteran presence in net while prospect Brandon Bussi continues to develop. Additionally, Girard is a highly skilled puck-moving defenseman, something Bruins GM Don Sweeney has publicly stated he is looking for. With three years left on his contract at a reasonable AAV, Girard would be a valuable addition to Boston's blue line.

For the Avalanche, acquiring Swayman would address their goaltending concerns and give them a potential long-term solution between the pipes. While giving up Girard would sting, Colorado has a deep defensive corps and could afford to part with him to land a top-tier goaltender.'

While this makes for some nice fan-fiction, it will certainly never happen. At the end of the day, the Bruins want to get a deal done with Swayman. He is an RFA and there are plenty of teams who would simply never want to pay a goalie as much as Swayman is supposedly worth. Having said that, the Avalanche are likely happy as is.
