Jets Garrett Wilson Wins First-Time Award
The New York Jets secured a potentially season-saving win against the Houston Texans in Week 9.
One of the biggest contributors to the win was star receiver Garrett Wilson, who finished the game with nine catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Wilson's second touchdown, a one-handed catch that gave New York the lead in the fourth quarter, went viral as an early catch of the year contender.
After the win, interim coach Jeff Ulbrich gave his reaction to the massive catch.
"I was talking to the ref when they were reviewing it," Ulbrich said. "I'm like, ‘Just for the sake of posterity, you have to say that's in. Just so it goes down in history.' I mean, it would rival the Odell [Beckham] catch. It was amazing..."
Following the win and the massive performance, Wilson was rewarded as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 9. It's the first time in his career that he's earned the honor.
After a slow start to the season, Wilson has begun to build chemistry with Aaron Rodgers in recent weeks. He now leads the league in catches with 60, is third in the league with 663 receiving yards and is seventh in receiving touchdowns with five.
All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, who was playing in his third game with the Jets after being acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders, also had a big night, totaling 91 yards and a touchdown on seven catches. If New York's offense can continue to produce like they did against Houston, a playoff run is certainly a possibility.
