The New York Jets will have their backs against the wall when they face the Indianapolis Colts.
Entering the game with a 3-7 record, a loss would almost certainly seal the fate of the Jets' season in Week 11.
The Jets will also have a new starter at left tackle on Sunday, as All-Pro Tyron Smith has been ruled out with a neck injury, clearing the way for first-round rookie Olu Fashanu to get the start. It will be Fashanu's first-career start at left tackle after starting two games at right tackle earlier in the season.
On Friday, Fashanu spoke about finally having the opportunity to play his natural position.
"It's definitely a big responsibility, but I try not to think about it like that," said Fashanu. "We're already in a high-pressure environment, so I'm not trying to put any more pressure on myself. There's a sense of familiarity going back to the position I played in college and high school."
The Jets selected Fashanu out of Penn State with the 11th-overall pick in the 2024 draft to be their left tackle of the future. New York signed Smith, who was a five-time All-Pro with the Dallas Cowboys, in the offseason. However, Smith has not lived up to expectations, as he has allowed six sacks in 10 games, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.
There is now a possibility that Smith could be placed on injured reserve, which would set Fashanu up to start the rest of the season at left tackle.
