Jets’ Mike Williams ‘Felt Good’: ‘What I Expected!’

New York Jets receiver Mike Williams is edging closer to getting back on the field for the regular season as he ramps up his return from an ACL injury suffered last year.

With Williams being cautious about his return, the Jets have played the slow game with the veteran, and now it appears that the time for going slow is over.

Head coach Robert Saleh stated that Williams caught "four or five catches and well over 100 yards" in practice on Thursday, so it appears that Mike is ready to roll for Week 1.

But what did Williams think of Thursday's practice?

"It felt good, it was amazing," Williams said. "Caught some passes today, got some yards in, so it felt good."

Despite Williams now being back with the team and making plays, Saleh stated that the Jets will be "smart' with their new receiver and not overplay their hand in Week 1.

As for Williams, what he produced on the practice field didn't surprise him.

"I mean, what I expected," Williams added. "I was putting the work in the whole time to make myself available to perform this season. So it all paying off at the right time."

With the Jets offense having Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard as the two main weapons, Williams will come in and assume the No. 2 role.

So much is expected of New York in 2024 considering the roster that has been built and with Williams now seemingly ready to go for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, it is no wonder expectations are high for Gang Green.

But don't expect Williams to hit the ground running, with Saleh saying, "It wouldn't be fair" to place those expectations on the veteran receiver.

Still, just having Williams out on the field in Week 1 is a big step, and while it might take him time to get up to speed in real NFL action, when he does, the Jets will have yet another weapon for Aaron Rodgers to utilize.
