Jets' Offensive Skill Positions Get Brutal 2025 Ranking

The New York Jets' offense, led by Justin Fields, will enter the 2025 season with little expectations and, for some, even fewer genuine weapons.

Expected to be a run-first offense under new coordinator Tanner Engstrand, Breece Hall and a stout offensive line are expected to be the stars of the show. But passing the ball still has merit.

Garrett Wilson, Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard and rookie Mason Taylor make up Fields' top weapons, and that doesn't scream elite offense. 

For ESPN, in ranking all 32 teams based on their offensive skill position players, the Jets, as expected, are near the bottom, coming in at No. 27.

"Garrett Wilson continues to plug on," ESPN wrote. "Justin Fields will become the ninth NFL quarterback to throw passes in Wilson's direction, and without Davante Adams in the mix, the Jets' passing attack will go as far as Wilson can take it. The Jets' other potential star playmaker from the 2022 draft isn't heading in the right direction. 

"The offseason additions included veteran wideout Josh Reynolds, who was cut in midseason by the Broncos, and second-round tight end Mason Taylor, who plays a position where it's often difficult to make an impact as a rookie, Brock Bowers aside."

The Jets' offense will be expected to be so-so until it proves otherwise with real NFL bullets flying in the regular season. There's no doubt talent on the roster, but many are skeptical whether it can produce better results than last season.

A 5-12 year, averaging 19.9 points per game (ranked 24th). That's the bar Fields and this group have to reach - can they clear it? That will be the hope, and with a new run-first scheme from a coordinator who has seen the Detroit Lions' run game up close, who knows what New York could be in 2025.

But the 27th-ranked skill position group in the NFL is quite the kick to the gut, and maybe Aaron Glenn might just use it as motivation this offseason.

No one expects the Jets offense to be good this season, which might make the surprise even better if they are.
