The New York Jets have a new figurehead leading the offense in 2025, with Justin Fields getting the keys to Tanner Engstrand's unit.
After Aaron Rodgers' failed time in New York, the franchise has moved on, along with Davante Adams and possibly Allen Lazard, so it is an offensive reshuffle for New York.
But with Adams and possibly Lazard out the door, couple with tight end Tyler Conklin a free agent, as things stand right now, Fields only has a couple of weapons in Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.
And for Pro Football Focus, the Jets' biggest need is to get Fields weapons.
"The Jets signed quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal in free agency, " Pro Football Focus writes. "Garrett Wilson, his former college teammate, is easily the team's top receiver, but New York doesn’t have much after that.
"The Jets released Davante Adams and may also move on from Allen Lazard. Their other receivers are Xavier Gipson, Malachi Corley and Irvin Charles, and their top tight end is Jeremy Ruckert, who has earned sub-60.0 PFF overall grades in each of his first three seasons. New York would be wise to use the No. 7 overall pick on Tetairoa McMillan or Tyler Warren."
New York's first-round pick almost certainly involves the franchise going offense, but there are still some free agents out there who could be useful, with Keenan Allen and Stefon Diggs, the main two, and so too Amari Cooper.
But it appears that under new general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn, the franchise wants to go younger, and getting Fields a top-tier offensive weapon in the draft looms as the avenue the franchise will go down.
Fields has shown promise in his NFL career, but as a former first-rounder, he hasn't shown he can be "that" guy yet. Maybe that happens in New York, but to do that, he needs help, and he should get it in the draft.
