The Golden Bachelorette's Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple may have gotten engaged at the end of their season, but that doesn't mean they'll be moving in together anytime soon. Maybe it's too much to expect 61-year-old Joan and 60-year-old Chock to move in together after meeting on a reality TV show. It wasn't the first time Joan had tried to find love on national television, as she made her television debut as a contestant on The Golden Bachelor. Things didn't work out between Joan and 72-year-old Gerry Turner, but she was cast as the Bachelor spin-off's first female lead.
During the premiere of The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Joan stood outside The Bachelor mansion greeting her 24 single Golden men in a fleet of limousines. Her initial meeting with Chock wasn't especially memorable, and he didn't even receive her first impression rose, which went to 62-year-old Keith Gordon instead. Chock did, however, receive Joan's first one-on-one date, and he ended up winning her final rose as well. Since getting engaged, Joan and Chock have talked about moving to New York City, but there are several reasons why it'll never happen.
Joan & Chock Might Be Moving For Clout
It Could Be Part Of Their Showmance
When a relationship is born on a reality TV dating show, it can be hard to tell which parts of the relationship are real and which are highly curated and manufactured by producers. Judging by The Golden Bachelorette season 1's Joan and Chock not keeping their hands off each other, there's a real attraction between them, but that doesn't mean they're the perfect match. It wouldn't be the first time a Golden Bachelor couple got carried away.
The Golden Bachelor season 1 ended with Gerry giving his final rose to 70-year-old Theresa Nist, and they were married during a nationally televised Golden Bachelor wedding event a few weeks later. Though hopes were high for the septuagenarian couple, they announced their divorce after only three months of matrimony. Theresa recently appeared on the Almost Famous podcast to spill some hot tea about the divorce, confessing that she felt rushed into marriage because the network offered to pay for their wedding.
There's little doubt that ABC would offer to pay for Joan and Chock's wedding, too.
Before starting production on The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Joan insisted that she wouldn't be rushing onto marriage at the end of the season. She wisely explained that people need time to get to know each other and had no intention of walking down the aisle at the end of the season. Joan's plan seemed to have gone out the window once Chock got down on one knee and presented her with a giant diamond ring. Once the first flush of excitement wears off, Joan will likely come to her senses and pump the brakes.
Joan & Chock Plan On Making NYC Their Second Home, Not Their Main Home
Another Long Distance Relationship
Since getting engaged, Joan and Chock have been apartment hunting in New York City. Though that seems promising, the reality is less romantic. The truth is Joan intends to keep living in Maryland, while Chock will stay in Kansas in the meantime. The NYC apartment will be a place for The Golden Bachelorette couple to meet sometimes, but it doesn't sound like they intend to be living together full-time. This was Gerry and Theresa's strategy as well, and their marriage ended up being impossible to sustain.
Joan & Chock Want It To Look Like They're Madly In Love
Is ABC About To Announce Their Wedding?
In a scene posted to YouTube by Bachelor Nation, Joan and Chock get engaged at the end of The Golden Bachelorette. Since then, Joan and Chock genuinely seem to be blissfully happy. Only time will tell if they're really madly in love or if they're trying too hard. Since Gerry and Theresa's Golden Bachelor wedding took place in January, ABC could be announcing another January wedding very soon.
