Joe Douglas thinks this team is “ready to win”

This season (much like last) has been termed a “win now” year for the New York Jets by many fans and pundits.

Jets finding any way into playoffs would make season a success

While past seasons have also been called as much, this year feels different. For a change, the roster is legitimately loaded, even if one has to hope for health from a few key players that have had recent injuries.

And fans and pundits aren’t the only ones who think this team is ready to win. In fact, New York Jets General Manager Joe Douglas said as much last week in a press conference.

While one could easily explain this away as typical GM speak, I’m not sure that I would. To date, Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh have largely managed to keep the support of team ownership and fans via offering a rosy picture of tomorrow rather than actual on-the-field wins. With this quote, Douglas is putting on the record that merely improving is no longer adequate, but rather that the goal is to win games in the present.

That’s as “win now” of a quote as you’re going to get from this GM, which probably says a lot about Douglas’ confidence in the current roster. Now fans just have to hope that his confidence is well placed, because if it is, then it sure sounds like the playoff drought could be ending this season.
