Entering his third year as the starter, Green Bay Packers quarterback made a bold decision. Jordan Love had to wait his turn after the team drafted him in 2020, but his time is now. After a decrease in production in 2024, things are on the rise in 2025.
Green Bay’s selection of Matthew Golden was a huge step in the right direction. Most of Love’s numbers regressed last season due to injuries. Now, he’s as healthy as ever and is looking to lead the Packers to his third straight postseason.
Jordan Love Reported to Camp Yesterday to Gain Reps with the Rookies
Even though Love’s numbers were down last year, the team won two more games. Their 11-6 record was only good enough for third place, even though 9-8 got them second the year prior. Regardless, the Packers season came to an end against the eventual Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Love’s injuries began in Brazil during his Week 1 game against Philly. The field conditions were far from standard as players were slipping around constantly. That won’t be an issue this year as the Packers will open their season at home for the first time in the Matt LaFleur era.
Shockingly, LaFleur hasn’t ever played a Week 1 game at Lambeau Field. He’s been the Head Coach since 2019, and only missed the playoffs in Aaron Rodgers final year with the team. Rodgers leadership helped prepare Love for his moment as the starter, which he’s cherished every second of.
Now, Love is showing just how much of a leader he is. The 26-year-old may not be an experienced, veteran quarterback, but his age works in his favor. Bringing in a young, hungry rookie class, they’re going to relate to Love more than they would a 40-year-old who’s been in the league for 10+ years.
Packers 2025 Draft Class
The Packers draft began with Golden selected at No. 23. Packers fans know the story of it being the first time they selected a wide receiver in the first round since 2002. It was fitting to do it in Green Bay, especially with it being Mark Murphy who made the announcement.
Following Golden, the team gave Love some extra protection with No. 54 Anthony Belton. Belton is an offensive tackle from NC State. In the third round, offense remained a focus with No. 87 WR Savion Williams.
Defense took up their next four selections, with OL John Williams being the final pick at No. 250. Even though the defensive picks don’t directly relate to Love on the field, it’s still important for them to immediately get a taste of his leadership.
Packers fans can’t stop dreaming about Love and Golden’s connection, which will see endless videos come out of training camp. Many seem to be sleeping on Williams, who had 1,184 yards and 10 touchdowns in his final two seasons at TCU.
While his yards per reception went down nearly four, he racked up 19 more completions. Golden’s speed will allow him to be the deep ball threat, as is Watson, upon his return. The team needs more receivers that can focus on short routes, which is where Williams thrived last season. Keep an eye on his drops though, which has plagued the Packers in the past.
