Jordan Love’s surprising take on Packers lack of No. 1 WR

The Green Bay Packers are without a clear first option at wide receiver, and the team’s quarterback is fine with that. Packers gunslinger Jordan Love doesn’t feel concerned at all about that issue.

“I think you don’t have to have a No. 1 receiver,” Love said, per the team. “I think it works out well when you can spread the ball out and you got different guys making different plays and you can put ’em in different areas.

“I think it puts a lot more stress on the defense and the calls that they can get in, so I think in the long run it helps us not having a No. 1 guy, a true No. 1 guy, but I think all those guys can step up and be the one any given day.”

Green Bay is hoping to build on the 2023 season, which saw the team make the playoffs in the first year without Aaron Rodgers under center. The Packers lost in the NFC Playoffs to the San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers famously left the team for the New York Jets, where he was out for the season with an injury during his first offensive drive.

Packers’ offense heading to the 2024 season

Green Bay made waves during the 2023 season, with Love under center. While many didn’t think the team would do well without Aaron Rodgers, Love proved the critics wrong. The young quarterback helped the team win his first career playoff game, defeating the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round. Green Bay made the playoffs after winning the last three games of the regular season.

Love put up pretty good numbers in his first full season as a starter in the NFL. He finished the year with 4,159 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. He also threw 11 interceptions. The quarterback used a committee of players to catch passes. His leading receiver in 2023 was Jayden Reed, who finished the season with 793 yards receiving. A total of 16 players recorded receptions in 2023, including multiple receivers, tight ends and running backs.

That obviously seems it will be the case again in 2024. Love’s words indicate he will again use a committee of targets this season. Packers fans probably don’t mind who leads the team in receptions and touchdowns, as long as the squad gets wins. The Packers have famously one of the most passionate fan bases in the league. The team hasn’t won a Super Bowl since the 2010 season, and Green Bay fans would love another title. It would be even sweeter for the team to win one the season before Green Bay hosts the NFL Draft. The 2025 event is scheduled to take place in Wisconsin.

The Packers will soon learn a lot about their receiving corps for this upcoming season. Packers minicamp begins on June 11. Green Bay fans are certainly excited to see what happens with their team this upcoming year.
