The Cleveland Browns season - for all practical purposes - is lost. At 2-7, the club sits in last place in the AFC North, a far cry from its 11-win season just a year ago that saw a playoff run facilitated by five different starting quarterbacks.
Injuries played a big part of last season, and that didn't change this year. But they were too much to overcome.
But a former Browns star thinks he can pinpoint what went wrong in Cleveland aside from injury issues.
Josh Cribbs appeared on "The Return with Josh & Maris Cribbs" and pinpointed an issue with communication.
"That's the theme of this team," Cribbs said. "Miscommunication. There's lack of communication, lack of cohesiveness."
While Cribbs might be on to something, the issues seem to be bigger than just communication. It could start with poor play, and even there it can be pinpointed at quarterback.
No amount of good communication can solve poor quarterback play, and Deshaun Watson has certainly been guilty of that this season. And let's not forget the original theme, injuries - mainly to the offensive line.
The good news is, we may be near the end of the Watson era in Cleveland, and the remaining $92 million the Browns still owe him seems like a small price to pay to move on.
On top of that, the Browns should qualify for a top draft pick in next April's NFL Draft.
