Josh Jacobs Sets the Record Straight on Davante Adams: Exclusive

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has turned some heads this week with his recruitment of wide receiver Davante Adams. The two were teammates on the Las Vegas Raiders as recently as last season and Adams hasn't ruled out the idea of going back to the Packers.

Adams was widely considered a very good teammate throughout his career until he requested a trade from the Raiders after a Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns. The Athletic's Vic Tafur previously reported that some Las Vegas players still aren't happy that the wide receiver would request a trade following a win.

Jacobs knows Adams well from his time with the Raiders and he wanted to defend the wide receiver. In an interview with Athlon, he had strong thoughts about Adams as a teammate and his decision to ask for a trade.

"Oh, he’s a great teammate, let me set the record straight on that,” Jacobs told Athlon. “We live four minutes down the road in Vegas from each other. I spend a lot of time with Tae and his family and I see the way he approaches going about working and how he helps everybody on the receiver side no matter if he just came in or if he might only be there for a week, he’s still out there so I would never discredit him as a teammate.

"I think people kind of get it misconstrued when us players value ourselves as a business. The organization; people don't hold them to the same standard. We can get traded and it's not a problem but once we want to leave or something like that we get held to a different standard. It’s like a different type of loyalty but for me, if I’m Tae and I know I’m at the back end of my career and I haven’t won a Super Bowl. I’ve won all these accolades but I haven’t won a Super Bowl, the only thing on my mind is to win and why I got the highest amount of availability left so for me, I understand his thought process. Especially for his legacy and you know he’s still chasing a gold jacket, he’s still chasing a Super Bowl so I understand his point of view."
