Justin Fields rumors continue to heat up in NY Jets' quarterback search

The NY Jets are going to be in need of a quarterback in 2025. That's assuming they aren't rolling with options already in place such as second-year QB Jordan Travis or traveled veteran Tyrod Taylor.

NY Jets should consider Justin Fields as a QB replacement for Aaron Rodgers

Now that new GM Darren Mougey is looking to architect his own path forward for New York, it is more likely than not that they look elsewhere. There are options in this year's draft that they could potentially explore. Another scenario is free agency.

Now that new general manager Darren Mougey is forging his own path for New York, it's likely the team will look elsewhere. They could explore options in this year's draft or consider free agency as an alternative.

We've discussed how Steelers quarterback Justin Fields could be a great fit for the Jets. According to a prominent NFL insider, that scenario is becoming increasingly likely.

The NY Jets are eyeing Justin Fields in free agency

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Monday that the Jets are a "sleeper option" for the fifth-year veteran. He also said that the feeling is possibly mutual.

"They could have some interest; they like the idea of a dual threat quarterback... I'm told Fields has looked at that roster, sees some intrigue there too. They have some good young pieces, like Garrett Wilson and a good defense."

Other teams are also interested in Fields, and the Jets' biggest competition might be his current employer in Pittsburgh — if they can meet his demands.

Fields is making it clear that wherever he ends up, he expects to be the starting quarterback. Recent reports from Pittsburgh indicate he's making that expectation particularly clear to the Steelers.

It appears that while the Steelers remain firmly interested in Fields, they are prepared to move on if the cost is too high. It's also worth noting that head coach Mike Tomlin hasn't relinquished control of the starting quarterback role since Ben Roethlisberger retired in 2021.

It will be fascinating to see if the Steelers bend to his requirements or allow him to walk. He finished last season with five touchdowns and just one interception, completing 65.8% of his passes for 1,106 yards. He added 289 rushing yards and led his team to a 4-2 record before he was benched for Russell Wilson.

The likelihood of Fields landing in New York remains unclear, but if he does, it would signal a fresh start for the Jets — finally introducing their first genuine dual-threat quarterback in years.
