Justin Jefferson Blown Away by Sam Darnold’s 'Bombs' Early at Vikings Training Camp

The Minnesota Vikings kicked off their 2024 training camp on Tuesday. Things are off to a strong start, with players and coaches taking the time today to speak with the media and answer questions, as they enter a crucial season.

Heading into this season, one of the biggest questions is whether newly signed veteran Sam Darnold or first-round draft pick JJ McCarthy, who led Michigan to a national championship in his final college season, will start at quarterback.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell has expressed his desire for a competitive atmosphere between the two quarterbacks during this camp. Despite this, Sam Darnold is expected to receive the majority of the reps with the first-team offense. From there, it’ll be up to Sam to keep the job through camp.

Today, Justin Jefferson caught a 50+ yard TD from Darnold and celebrated like he had just been thrown a game-winning TD. Jets chatted with the media after practice and couldn’t help but smile as he talked about how impressed he was by some of Sam Darnold’s throws, or “bombs”, as he called them.

Jefferson has surpassed 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons and aims to extend that streak, no matter who’s playing quarterback.

With a recent contract extension keeping him with the Vikings for the next five years, Jefferson’s commitment to the team is as strong as ever.
