With mandatory mini camps coming to an end, the New Orleans Saints have entered the silent portion of the offseason for the next month and a half. Some players use this time to rest, vacation, and spend time with family. Meanwhile, the Saints tight end room will use this time to join Tight End University, a perfect opportunity to find ways to improve this offseason.
Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau lead the way at Tight End University
Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau are the headliners of the Saints tight end room. They will be present, along with backups Michael Jacobson, and Jack Stoll. New Orleans has a packed tight end room. There's a pecking order, but there are nine tight ends currently on the roster total. To get nearly half of them to this event is a great sight for the team.
It shows a commitment that starts at the top and trickles down. All the veterans in the room, minus Taysom Hill, are present. With how versatile the Saints ask him to be, there's a chance HIll wouldn't have shown up even if he were healthy.
The players who aren't present are Seth Green, Dallin Holker, Moliki Motavao and Treyton Welch. Those are all extremely young players. While you'd like to see the younger players present as well, having the top of the room present is more important.
Tight End University's longevity
Likely inspired by Von Miller's Pass Rush Summit, Tight End University is heading into their fifth year. The three day event was founded in 2021 by Travis Kelce and Greg Olsen. This event was created as an opportunity for NFL tight ends across the league to train, collaborate, and develop their skills before training camp.
You can tell by the founders the mission of the event is camaraderie. Olsen was the only founder who wasn't playing. Kittle and Kelce were still active at the time and still are. It's current players showing other current players exchanging tricks and tips.
In such a competitive sport, some will shy away from these types of events. The tight ends haven't and the Saints are taking advantage of it.
