Kansas City Chiefs Receive Criticism For 1 ‘Crazy’ Move To Change Players Position

The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the 2024 NFL season with big goals of accomplishing a three-peat. Winning the Super Bowl in three straight years is unheard of and would cement this era of Chiefs’ football among the best in the history of the league.

Patrick Mahomes leading the way gives the Chiefs a fighting chance in and of itself. He is quickly emerging as a serious competitor to Tom Brady for the “GOAT” title. A three-peat this season would likely move him to nearly even with Brady already.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season, the Chiefs are loaded with talent on both sides of the football. Arguably the biggest move of the offseason was re-signing star defensive lineman Chris Jones. Unfortunately, that move made it necessary to cut ties with star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who was traded to the Tennessee Titans.

One reason that the Kansas City Chiefs felt comfortable moving on from Sneed was due to the presence of young cornerback Trent McDuffie. However, some aren’t happy with him changing positions to replace Sneed.

Kansas City Chiefs Receive Criticism For “Crazy” Move To Change Player’s Position

A to Z Sports analyst Charles Goodman is not a fan of switch McDuffie from being a slot cornerback to the outside. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice his opinion.

“I think it’s crazy they’re just content moving him to outside CB this season.”

McDuffie has certainly been an impressive find for the Kansas City Chiefs. After being drafted with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, McDuffie has become a budding star for the team’s defense.

During the 2023 season with the Chiefs, McDuffie racked up 80 total tackles to go along with three sacks, five forced fumbles, and seven defended passes. He has yet to record an interception, but that is sure to come.

If the Kansas City Chiefs are going to three-peat this season, the defense will need to step up. Mahomes and the offense are much more high-powered this year than they were last. The franchise went out and signed playmaking wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in free agency and added Xavier Worthy in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Should the Chiefs’ defense rise to the occasion, Kansas City will have a good chance to win it all once again.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see how McDuffie transitions to playing outside cornerback. Sneed was one of the best in the business, so he has big shoes to fill.
