Kansas City Chiefs Urged to Trade For 3,700-Yard WR to Help Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense has the potential to look much different this season, but the reigning champs also have the opportunity to add one more game-altering weapon to Patrick Mahomes’ arsenal before the 2024 season kicks off.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (87) smiles during day 3 of training camp at Missouri Western State University on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 in St. Joseph, MO.

As the Chiefs gear up to make a run at a historic third consecutive Super Bowl championship, rookie receiver Xavier Worthy is already looking like the deep-threat that Mahomes has been missing since Tyreek Hill was traded away to the Miami Dolphins in 2022, and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has the potential to be a major veteran upgrade to a receiving corps that led the league in dropped passes in 2023.

But, after the Cincinnati Bengals and Tee Higgins failed to agree to terms on a long-term contract and the star receiver will likely play out this season on the franchise tag, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has the opportunity to add a major upgrade to the offense before this season kicks off.

Could Kansas City Chiefs Trade for Tee Higgins?

Veach and the Chiefs seem intent on ensuring Mahomes enters this season with viable weapons at receiver who can become consistent playmakers.

Adding Higgins would, in a lot of ways, put the Chiefs’ offense over the top.

That’s exactly the move Pro Football Focus’ Thomas Valentine suggests Kansas City Should make this summer.

“The Chiefs have long been in the hypothetical market for a receiver despite signing Marquise Brown to a one-year deal in free agency,” Valentine points out for PFF. “The Bengals might not be too content with the idea of trading Tee Higgins to a Super Bowl-contending rival, especially when those rivals are the reigning Super Bowl champions, but a long-term contract doesn’t appear to be on the horizon for Higgins. Rather than let him walk, the Bengals could look to move him for future draft picks.

“The Chiefs should throw themselves into the sweepstakes. Travis Kelce might not have too many years left in the tank, and Higgins would give Mahomes a legitimate X receiver.”

Higgins and Worthy would form a dynamic duo of perimeter receivers for Mahomes.

Additionally, Higgins’ reliability — despite wildly inconsistent quarterback play last season, Bengals signal callers posted a nearly flawless 103.2 passer rating when targeting him.

Higgins might just prove to be exactly the upgrade the Chiefs need to complete this offseason’s transformation at receiver.
