Kathy Hilton reveals reason she joined RHOBH during candid Call Her Daddy interview

On the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper, Kathy Hilton explained what led her to join the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills despite her daughters' wishes against it

Kathy Hilton revealed her reasons for joining The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills during her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast this week.

In a conversation with host Alex Cooper, Hilton explained that it was boredom during COVID, mixed with a strained relationship with her sister, Kyle Richards. “It was during COVID, I was bored, and Kyle and I had kinda separated,” Hilton said.

When Cooper asked what eventually convinced her to appear on a show her daughters had actively discouraged her from doing, Hilton said, “My daughters did not want me to do it,” she admitted, referring to Paris and Nicky Hilton. “They didn’t want me on a show where there’s a lot of drama.”

Despite her daughters’ warnings, Hilton said the decision helped mend things between her and Kyle. “We were like girls again,” she said. “Laughing.” Hilton first joined RHOBH in season 11 as a “friend of” the cast, rather than a full-time housewife.

 

She was quickly embraced by viewers for her offbeat humor and laid-back approach, becoming a regular presence in the seasons that followed. But her reasons for joining the show had little to do with building a fan base.

She explained on the podcast that the timing lined up with a period when she and Kyle weren’t speaking much, and filming together gave them a reason to reconnect.

Though she’s now appeared in multiple seasons, Hilton has said in past interviews that she has no interest in becoming a full-time cast member.

“It’s very, very stressful,” she told People last year, referring to filming the show’s reunion episodes.

She returned in a guest role during season 13, and will appear again in season 14, where much of the attention has been on Kyle’s separation from husband Mauricio Umansky.

Hilton reportedly came back in part to support her sister through the split.

On Call Her Daddy, Hilton also spoke about some of her other interests, including hosting wellness events for friends and her unexpected love of novelty items like stuffed animals.

She even shared that she once bought a $22 blazer from Shein, something her daughter Paris initially reacted to with surprise. “Hot,” Paris eventually called it.

While the podcast touched on lighter topics, Hilton’s comments about her decision to join RHOBH stood out for their simplicity.

She also was asked if she thought her sister would ever get back with recent ex Mauricio Umansky, to which Hilton said she did not think the pair were the best match.
