Detroit’s own Kid Rock is turning up the volume on the Lions’ Super Bowl chase, unveiling a brand-new anthem designed to shake Ford Field to its foundation. The track, titled “Motor City Charge”, is set to drop on August 30 — just one week before kickoff.
The Romeo, Michigan native, known for blending rock, rap, and grit, says this isn’t just another song — it’s a mission statement. “Detroit doesn’t just watch football, we live it. This is our fight song, our swagger, our heartbeat — and it’s time to take it all the way,” Kid Rock told ESPN.
Lions fans will get their first live taste when Kid Rock performs “Motor City Charge” at the home opener against the Green Bay Packers on September 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Following a historic 15-2 campaign in 2024, the energy promises to be electric.
At a press event in downtown Detroit, Kid Rock teased a verse from the anthem:
"In the Motor City, we run full speed,
Steel and soul in every deed,
From the first hit to the final score,
Lions fight, and we want more."
The track will also feature a rousing bridge paying homage to Detroit’s football legacy:
"In Honolulu blue, our pride won’t fade,
Motown heart, in every play we’ve made,
From the first snap to the final frame,
The Lions rise, and we own this game."
Produced alongside DJ Premier, Motor City Charge blends classic Detroit rock grit with a heavy stadium-shaking beat. Unlike Kid Rock’s 2012 hit “In Detroit”, this anthem is crafted specifically for the Lions’ 2025 roster — a team with its eyes locked on Super Bowl LX.
Social media exploded after the announcement. “This song’s gonna light Ford Field on fire!” wrote one fan on X. Lions merch shops are already seeing preorders for Motor City Charge-themed apparel.
Kid Rock’s bond with the franchise is decades deep — from his 2010 Thanksgiving halftime show to his game-day appearances and local charity work. His music has long reflected the Motor City’s blue-collar grit and relentless pride.
With Motor City Charge set to echo through Ford Field, Kid Rock isn’t just dropping a song — he’s throwing down a battle cry for Lions Nation to carry all the way to the Super Bowl.
