Kyle Shanahan Cites 'Physicality' in Demarcus Robinson Signing

The San Francisco 49ers haven't made many big splashes in free agency this offseason, as a matter of fact, it's been just the opposite.

As the 49ers continue to re-tool their roster and make salary cuts, one move has stood out this spring.

After the injury to wideout Brandon Aiyuk and his recovery timeline, as well as the departure of Deebo Samuel, general manager John Lynch signed former Los Angeles Rams wideout Demarcus Robinson.

The San Francisco staff and players should be familiar with Robinson after he spent the past two seasons in the division with the rival Los Angeles Rams.

Coach Kyle Shanahan spoke about Robinson at the league meetings in West Palm Beach, Florida this week.

"Just playing against him. I have a lot of respect for him. I've always been a fan of him since he came out of college, but really playing with the Rams these last two years," said Shanahan. "The style he played with, how physical he played in the run game and the pass game. We always respected his game and we didn't want to have to go against him anymore."

Robinson was arrested in November for DUI and he could be facing a three-game suspension to start the season. But the 49ers got him on a value contract for two years and $9 million.
