Kyle Shanahan Thinks 49ers Long Snapper 'Overreacted' to Deebo Samuel

Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers got a much needed win in Week 10 over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it didn't come without some drama along the way. After kicker Jake Moody missed his third field goal of the day, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and long snapper Taybor Pepper had a heated confrontation on the sideline.

Samuel reportedly told Moody to lock in after his third missed field goal of the day, which was a comment that Pepper took exception to. Samuel proceeded to swing at Pepper before walking away, with the situation thankfully not escalating any further than that.

After the game, all parties involved downplayed the incident, saying it was simply something that happened in the heat of the moment. However, on Wednesday, Shanahan admitted that Pepper "overreacted" to Samuel's comment towards Moody, noting how the kicker took it in stride.

"I didn't mind at all what Deebo said to Jake and Jake didn't mind it either," Shanahan said about the confrontation, per David Lombardi of The San Francisco Standard.

Moody responded to Samuel's comment by going out and kicking a game-winning 44-yard field goal, which certainly helped diffuse any potential lingering tensions. Of course, considering what happened, the altercation to be addressed after the game.

Shanhan's comment is somewhat surprising since everyone had downplayed it and largely put it in the rearview mirror. By placing the blame on Pepper, Shanahan may re-opening some now old wounds, which is precisely what they don't want to be doing ahead of their crucial Week 11 action.

With the win, San Fran's record is 5-4 on the year, but that's only good for second in the NFC West currently, as the Arizona Cardinals are leading the way with a 6-4 record. In order for the Niners to find their way into the playoffs, their best hope is to go out and keep on winning.

Making Week 11 even more important is the fact that they have a divisional matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on hand. Kickoff for this huge game is currently scheduled for 4:05 P.M. EST on Sunday, Nov. 17th.
