Five-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls, Ron Harper, said that Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic became "comfortable" with the Dallas Mavericks. Harper criticized Doncic's lifestyle with the Mavericks, which led to get traded.
Doncic surprised the NBA world twice this year. The Dallas Mavericks traded him to the Lakers for big man Anthony Davis the first time. The second was this offseason, when he showed up with a new bod.
Doncic was a hot topic recently as he shaved off a significant amount of weight. Often, he was criticized by the media for being out of shape. It was also one of the reasons why the Mavericks shipped him to the Lakers.
Ron Harper Believes Doncic Became Comfortable in Dallas
As the new-look Doncic made waves on the internet, Bulls' legend Harper gave his take on what happened to the star. Harper thinks the Slovenian sensation felt at ease in Dallas, which is why he let his conditioning go.
"You saw Luka body and non workouts in Dallas so you can make your own opinion. He got comfortable in Dallas," Harper wrote as a comment on X under an "NBA Today" clip posted by @Fullcourtpass.
While this was Harper's take, there are a few subtle hints regarding Doncic's lack of conditioning. For example, a viral clip from the Western Conference finals gave fans a glimpse of the five-time All-Star drinking beer while celebrating their playoff win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Before that, there were also a few occasions where he was seen smoking hookah and drinking beer. This happened a few summers ago.
Doncic is determined to stay fit and healthy
Doncic stated that he intends to remain consistent to preserve his new physique, considering the volume of criticism he has received. In the recent edition of Men's Health magazine, he showed that he's a changed person.
“If I stop now,” Doncic said, “it was all for nothing.”
The European star has switched to a gluten-free, low-sugar diet. Doncic also told the media that he's willing to continue a healthy lifestyle.
