Last of Us studio Naughty Dog nabs God of War art director for mysterious new project | N4G

Naughty Dog, the studio behind Uncharted and The Last of Us, is hard at work on its next project. In a surprise announcement, the new studio has nabbed a new art director for its next game, God of War’s Rafael Grassetti.

God of War art director joins Last of Us dev

Announced on social media, Rafael Grassetti has officially joined Naughty Dog as a full-time art director for the PlayStation first-party studio. In the past, Grassetti has worked as an artist on franchises such as Mass Effect, Killzone, Infamous and more.

However, Grassetti is most known for their role as Art Director at Sony Santa Monica, working as an artist on both God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarok. After becoming Studio Art Director in October 2022, the game developer moved to Netflix to work on a brand-new AAA IP.

Unfortunately, Grassetti’s tenure at Netflix’s new AAA gaming studio was cut short as the movie streaming brand shut down the majority of its gaming output. However, just months after, the talented game artist is officially working on Naughty Dog’s new title.

What is Naughty Dog working on?

It’s still not known what exactly Naughty Dog’s next game actually is. While there are rumours of a new IP set in a sci-fi setting, there is also an expectation for the AAA game studio to work on The Last of Us Part 3, especially considering the franchise’s success with its TV show adaptation.

Other rumours also claim that the studio is working on a from-the-ground-up remake of the original Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. A much rougher game than its brilliant sequels, the debut entry in the Uncharted franchise could probably do with some touch ups.

With Sony already releasing remakes of the original Last of Us or even 2015’s Until Dawn, a remake of its flagship PS3 game isn’t a bad shout. After all, if Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered can get greenlit, why wouldn’t this?
