Latest reports indicate that the Patriots can find two ideal solutions for the same problem

It was a disappointing rookie season for wide receivers Ja'Lynn Polk and Javon Baker. However, the New England Patriots are hopefully that they will step it up in year 2 with an entirely new staff.

Patriots give starter permission to seek a trade not even a year after they gave him a massive pay raise

And a Boston Herald reports shed some light on how Baker is viewed across the league.

"A league source familiar with the Patriots' roster believes Javon Baker remains their most talented wideout, and another source expressed Baker has recommitted himself this offseason after a disappointing rookie season," the Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan and Doug Kyed wrote.

Baker quickly made a name for himself after some wild comments following being drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He went on Instagram Live, reacting to 17 wide receivers getting drafted before him.

“Took too (expletive) long,” Baker said. “Y’all finna pay.”

Baker then spoke with reporters following the selection and dropped quite the quote.

“Come to the stadium and bring y’all popcorn,” Baker said during a video conference. “That’s all I can tell y’all. Bring your popcorn. I make people in wheelchairs stand up.

However, he was unable to show people what he's capable of. But now, it's a whole new year.

As for Polk, Eliot Wolf made his feelings clear earlier this week.

"Organizationally, we maybe put too much on his plate early, and I think that kind of stunted his growth a little bit," Wolf revealed at the 2025 NFL scouting combine. "He's aware of that, and we've talked about it, and he's going to continue to work hard and rehab and do the things that are necessary to improve every day."

However, the Herald report said that some believed this wasn't the case.

"One coach also disagreed with Wolf’s assertion that second-round rookie receiver Ja’Lynn Polk struggled because too much was put on his plate. He believed Polk’s lack of production stemmed from coaching, a lack of command in the position room and the rookie wide receiver’s poor attitude," Callahan and Kyed wrote.

Polk finished with 12 receptions for 87 total yards and two touchdowns across 15 games played.
