When the 2025 NFL pre-draft process started, analysts expected the Tennessee Titans to choose between quarterbacks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders at No. 1 overall. There was a perceived battle between Sanders and Ward to be the first player selected.
That projection proved nowhere near reality. The Titans chose Ward, and that decision began gaining steam in March following his pre-draft visit to Nashville. Meanwhile Sanders slid to the fifth round, when the Cleveland Browns ended his pitiful draft-weekend experience at No. 144 overall.
Ward has been as advertised this offseason. The former Miami Hurricanes standout quickly gained the respect of his teammates at OTAs and minicamp, displaying the infectious personality that drew Tennessee to him in the first place. Ward balances a laid-back off-field approach with a fierce on-field competitive nature, one that had him constantly talking trash with team superstar Jeffery Simmons and the defense at practice.
Meanwhile Sanders joined a loaded Browns quarterback room that also contains fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, who they selected before him, and veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. Reps will be difficult to come by. Furthermore, Sanders was recently cited by police for driving 101 mph, according to police records.
An officer for the Strongsville (Ohio) Police Department stopped Sanders for driving 41 mph over the posted 60 mph speed limit, according to records.
Shedeur Sanders keeps proving the Titans made the right decision
Sanders' run-in with police wasn't overly serious, even though he was driving significantly faster than anyone should. It's more about his inability to avoid such scenarios less than two months after sliding in the draft due to off-field questions and concerns. It's not the preferred behavior of a rookie NFL draft pick.
Meanwhile Ward has been a model citizen and teammate who is gaining his organization's respect and admiration by the day. The Titans never faced a difficult pre-draft decision. It was Ward all the way. Sanders' disappointing occurrence is further proof the Titans made the correct choice.
