Tampa Bay Lightning superstar Andrei Vasilevskiy feels healthy and has a big goal for the season because of it.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are back on the ice for training camp, much to the excitement of their fans. Superstar goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy is among them, which is great.
Last year, Vasilevskiy missed the first handful of weeks of the season due to back surgery. However, barring any sudden injuries, he will be good to go for the start of the regular season. Naturally, the 30-year-old is excited about this, and he is entering the season with a big goal because of it.
While speaking with reporters, including Eduardo A. Encina, Vasilevskiy said he would be happy to play 70-plus games this season if Lightning head coach Jon Cooper would let him.
If Vasilevskiy makes at least 70 starts this season, it would be the first time he hit that mark in his career. Throughout his 10-year career, Vasilevskiy has played in 60 games three times. His career-high in games is 65, which was during the 2017-18 campaign.
If Vasilevskiy stays healthy and has a bounce-back season, the prospect of him making 70 appearances this season should not be ruled out. This is especially so if the Lightning end up fighting for a playoff spot down the stretch. We will need to wait and see what happens on that front from here.
