Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper announced that Brayden Point will miss Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers with a lower-body injury.
This is the second game that Point missed due to injury this week.
Point left Sunday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets midway through the first period and did not return.
Point has tallied eight goals and five assists for 13 points in 12 games. Prior to his injury, Point was on pace for 88 points in a full season. This is on par with his past two seasons which have seen him put up 95 and 90 points.
Point was a third-round pick for the Lightning in the 2014 NHL Draft out of the WHL, and after two more productive seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors and a brief stint in the AHL in 2014-15 with the Syracuse Crunch, he made his NHL debut in the 2016-17 season. He is currently in his ninth season with the Bolts, winning two Stanley Cups with the team in 2020 and 2021.
Point is currently in the third year of an eight-year contract with a $9.5 million cap hit.
Tampa currently sits third in the Atlantic Division with a 7-6-0 record and 14 points. The Bolts will play the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday before having a week off before their next game on Nov. 14 against the Winnipeg Jets.
