The Ohio State vs. Oregon matchup did not go the way that anyone really expected it to in the quarterfinal of the College Football Playoffs.
While Ohio State was the slight favorite, no one thought it would end up being a 41-21 game in favor of the Buckeyes. Ohio State used a very fast start where they got a 34-0 lead before halftime to propel them to the win.
Following the win, one member of the Detroit Lions had to pay the price of the Ducks losing to the Buckeyes. All-Pro offensive tackle Penei Sewell had to daunt some Ohio State gear due to a friendly wager with his teammate and former Buckeye Taylor Decker.
Sewell is the highest-drafted offensive lineman from Oregon after when the Lions took him No. 7 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Since then, Sewell has blossomed into one of the very best tackles that the NFL has to offer. Sewell has a First-Team All-Pro and three Pro Bowls to his name already.
Decker on the other hand played at Ohio State from 2012 until 2015 and won a National Championship with the Buckeyes a decade ago. The Lions selected Decker at No. 16 overall in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Since then, Decker has started all 126 games that he has played in with Detroit.
For now, Decker holds the upper hand with his Buckeyes chasing a National Championship. Ohio State plays Texas on Friday in the Cotton Bowl, and if they win they will play either Penn State or Notre Dame in the big game.
If all goes to plan for Decker and Sewell, they will soon have a Super Bowl win to celebrate together. The pursuit of a Super Bowl wasn’t going to stop Decker and Sewell from making the friendly wager.
