Lions already have their game of the year circled even before the schedule release

Lions games are like your kids: each one of them is uniquely and equally important in your life, it's just that some of them are more fun to be around than others. It's not that you don't love the Bears matchups any less, it's just that there are other games that may, uh, not just throw a giant temper tantrum in the middle of Trader Joes.

The golden child of this year's Lions schedule is extremely obvious, too. It takes approximately four (4) seconds to briefly peruse the schedule and – even without knowing when the games will take place – figure out exactly which game means the most. Spoiler alert: it's the Commanders game. And with respect to whoever's behind the weird graphic the NFL released that suggests it's actually the Eagles game, they're wrong – the Eagles may be Super Bowl champs, but they didn't come into Detroit and embarass the Lions. This one's personal.

Lions' biggest game of the 2025-2026 NFL season is extremely obvious

In the NFL's defense, I appreciate that they have the Lions-Eagles matchup as the second-most exciting game of the entire year. I don't at all agree, but I appreciate it. It's definitely more interesting than the Broncos-Texans, that is for sure. Probably more interesting than Rams-Ravens, too.

This is the beauty of the schedule reveal: it really puts to the test just how far we're willing to go to pretend that the NFL is providing us new content. It hasn't even happened yet and we're all just going along pretending otherwise. It's the hottest heat check from a league that is very comfortable with those at this point. They know we're going to blog these types of debates and spend our Wednesday in a totally-self-inflicted furry of schedule panic. But hey, we can all circle our games tomorrow – just don't circle Lions-Eagles. You know better.
