Lions' Dan Campbell explains the funny gaffe Texas made when they were trying to recruit him

Back in 1994, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was a top recruit out of Glenn Rose High School, and he was looking for a college to play at.

Campbell was on the LiucciCast this week with Billy Liuuci, and he talked about how badly his dad wanted him to go to Texas A&M, but how he had a former Texas running backs coach, Bucky Godbolt, out for a recruiting visit, and how Godbolt's lack of animal knowledge turned off Campbell's father.

"My dad, he's a cowboy man. We grew up in the country, working cattle, goats. He's also a marine, and so he's wanting me to go to A&M. I had a cousin who went to the University of Texas, so that piqued my interest."

Godbolt went to the Campbell house, which was in the middle of nowhere on a dirt road, and when he got out of the car, Campbell said his eyes were wide because of what he saw on that dirt road on the way in.

"He goes, 'Man, you know, I've never seen black deer like that.' And my dad, just because I knew what it was immediately, my dad just looks at me and drops his head. And so I know that was already Strike one. They were Spanish goats that our neighbors had, that had gotten out through the creek bed, and they were on our side of the pit. But they're just our neighbor's goats. Man, they're just fast goats. And when he said that, it was a downer. And needless to say, R.C. (Slocum) shows up about three weeks later. He knew exactly what they were."

So there you go, future recruiters. Know what a Spanish Goat is if you really want that tight end who lives in the middle of nowhere. These are Spanish Goats, by the way.
