Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided discouraging injury news regarding veteran linebacker Alex Anzalone following the team's 52-6 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
Anzalone left the game with a forearm injury late in the second half and was originally designated to be questionable to return.
However, he was later ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Anzalone suffered the injury while assisting on a tackle to bring down Jaguars running back Travis Etienne.
Campbell told reporters after the game that Anzalone broke his forearm and won't return for "6-8 weeks." That likely means the linebacker won't be back until playoffs.
Given the recovery timeline, Anzalone could return as early as Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers.
It's yet another blow for the Lions, who have been dealing with injuries all season long, specifically to its defense. They've already lost Aidan Hutchinson, Marcus Davenport and Derrick Barnes, among others.
In the meantime, look for Ben Niemann and Trevor Nowaske to get more looks at the inside linebacker position with the veteran sidelined.
Anzalone is another leader lost on the Lions defense, a tough blow to grind through for the rest of the regular season.
The Lions next will take on the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
