Lions don't tender several RFAs, plan to retain veteran running back

Craig Reynolds wasn’t tendered by the Detroit Lions before the NFL’s new league year officially began at 4 p.m. Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean he’s going anywhere.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions are expected to sign Reynolds to a one-year deal at some point this week.

In 17 games last season, the sixth-year running back had 31 carries for 139 yards. He also played 272 snaps on special teams.

Reynolds was among several restricted free agents (RFAs) the Lions did not tender, a group that also includes linebacker Anthony Pittman, tight end Shane Zylstra, and offensive lineman Kayode Awosika. Because of that, all four players are now unrestricted free agents.

Zylstra played 12 games for the Lions last season, starting one. He spent most of his time on special teams, where he logged 194 snaps.

Pittman, who rejoined the Lions in the middle of last season following a brief stint with the Jaguars, played in four games, primarily on special teams.

Awosika appeared in 11 games for the Lions last season, starting two.

One RFA the Lions did retain was defensive lineman Myles Adams, who officially signed his one-year deal Wednesday after joining the team late last season.
