The team has a ton of cap space to work with and a roster that is ready to contend right now.

The Lions have been predicted to go after a number of big names already this offseason, but their actual plan has been unclear so far.

That changed a bit at the NFL Combine.

During his February 25 press conference at the Combine, Lions general manager Brad Holmes revealed that he has been watching tape from the team's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals to look at one of their offensive free agents.

"I was looking at our game at Arizona in Week 3. We're looking at a free agent on the offensive side of the ball."

The player that stands out as an obvious choice is Will Hernandez. He has been a solid right guard for the Cardinals over his three years with the team, but is set to hit free agency after missing most of the 2024 season.

The Lions are set to lose their own right guard this offseason as Kevin Zeitler hits free agency after one season with the team.

Hernandez should be a cheaper option at the position.

He made just $4.5 million per season over the last two years and is coming off of a major knee injury as he enters his age-30 season.

That could make him a great fit for the Lions at the position because they might already have their starter on the roster.

Christian Mahogany saw limited playing time as a rookie, but was solid in the two starts he needed to make.

Bringing in Hernandez would give them insurance if Mahogany isn't the answer, but shouldn't cost them too much if he ends up just being a backup.

Greg Dortch could also be an option as Tim Patrick is heading for free agency and Khalif Raymond could be cut this offseason.

That would leave openings at receiver and in the return game, which would make Dortch somebody of interest to the Lions.

Whoever it is that the Lions are looking at, this is the first real indication Holmes has given of who the organization could pursue in free agency this offseason.
