Terrion Arnold has been dealing with a hamstring injury for about the last week. But the Detroit Lions are optimistic about the starting cornerback’s recovery.
Dan Campbell said the second-year cornerback is dealing with a low-grade hamstring injury, and they hope to have him back by the middle of this week. Arnold also left a practice with a calf injury earlier in training camp, so the Lions are exercising caution with last year’s first-round pick.
“It’s not a major hamstring,” the Lions head coach said. “But we’re trying to be smart with it and we’re hoping to have him back -- what is today? Sunday right? -- We’re hoping to have him back by the middle of the week.”
In other injury updates, veteran offensive lineman Dan Skipper (ankle) is expected to miss a week or so of action. Starting left tackle Taylor Decker (shoulder) is getting closer to returning, as Campbell said he’ll go through more in practice, but won’t yet dip his toes into team drills at this stage.
Skipper left the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers after suffering an ankle injury on a Craig Reynolds rush in the second quarter. He was spotted leaving the locker room in a walking boot.
“(Skipper) He’ll probably be down for about a week, got his ankle a little bit,” Campbell said. “Shouldn’t be long term, but he’s going to need to lay off of it for a little bit here.”
Decker underwent an offseason shoulder surgery to clean some things up. The Lions circled the week after the Hall of Fame Game for his potential return when camp started. It sounds like that timeline isn’t far off, with the team’s longest-tenured player expected to start doing a little more.
“He will be out there (on Sunday) -- individual, group (work),” Campbell said, “Don’t see him doing any team right now, but he’ll be back out moving around, which is good.”
Decker has been removed from the active physically unable to perform list, per team officials.
Tight end Kenny Yeboah (leg) avoided serious injury in the Hall of Fame Game, as well. Yeboah got rolled up on, and it did not look good at first. But Campbell said he’ll be back at practice this week after missing Sunday’s session in Allen Park for personal reasons.
