Lions make all kinds of history in blowout win vs. Jaguars

Detroit's Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery accomplished something historic together on Sunday.

Not only did the Detroit Lions dismantle the Jacksonville Jaguars 52-6 in front of their home fans on Sunday, but multiple players also set individual historic marks.

Aside from individual performances, Detroit also set a handful of franchise and NFL records as well.

Here's a rundown of those stats, according to the team.

Team Accomplishments

The 2024 Lions are now one of nine teams to rush for over 100 yards and a touchdown in each of the first 10 games in a season. The other teams include:

  • 1975 Miami Dolphins
  • 1972 Dallas Cowboys
  • 1966 Dallas Cowboys
  • 1960 Green Bay Packers
  • 1948 Cleveland Browns
  • 1948 San Francisco 49ers
  • 1936 Detroit Lions
  • 1934 Chicago Bears

Detroit also tied an NFL record by having four players produce over 95 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in a single game. It was only the fifth time it's ever happened in league history. The players are:

  • WR Amon-Ra St. Brown: 157 yards and two touchdowns
  • WR Jameson Williams: 126 yards and a touchdown
  • RB Jahmyr Gibbs: 123 yards and a touchdown
  • RB David Montgomery: 95 yards and two touchdowns

The team has also produced two games with seven touchdowns and 50 points in a season for the first time in franchise history. Additionally, the Lions are the fourth team in league history to produce 52 or more points in consecutive home games, joining the 2014 Green Bay Packers, 1966 Dallas Cowboys and the 1950 Los Angeles Rams.

Detroit also became one of four teams to allow one passing touchdown or less and intercept at least one pass in each of the first 10 games this season. The other teams include:

  • 1985 Philadelphia Eagles
  • 1984 Denver Broncos
  • 1939 New York Giants

Individual Accomplishments

Quarterback Jared Goff has now posted a passer rating of 125+ and logged two or more touchdown passes in three consecutive home games. It ties for the longest streak in a season in NFL history. He also has produced four games with a passer rating of 140+ this season, tied for the most in a single season in league history (15 attempts per game minimum).

Additionally, Goff has five games with a completion percentage of 80% this season, the most in NFL history (15 attempts per game minimum). Goff also became the only quarterback in league history to have multiple games with 400 or more passing yards and a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown became the third player in franchise history to post a game with at least 10 receptions, 150 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns, joining Brett Perriman (1995) and Cloyce Box (1950).

St. Brown also has tied for the third-most 100-yard receiving games (18) in Lions history, heading into Week 12. He also has 29 career receiving touchdowns, the third-most among any Lions player through four seasons. It also ties Roy Williams for the ninth-most receiving touchdowns in franchise history.

What's more, St. Brown has now produced a receiving touchdown in eight consecutive games. It ties the third-longest single-season streak in the NFL since the 1970 merger.

The most impressive stat by far that was reached on Sunday involved St. Brown, David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. The trio all scored a touchdown in the same game for the eighth time, the most instances of a trio of teammates to do so in NFL history.

Gibbs has now produced at least 70 scrimmage yards in each of the first 10 games of the season. The only other Lions player to do so was Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders in 1993. Gibbs also has reached 1,000 scrimmage yards on the season, becoming the first Lions running back to reach that mark through 10 games of a season since Reggie Bush did in 2013. The speedster also has produced a rush of at least 15 yards in nine straight games, the longest streak by any Detroit player since Sanders from 1997-98.

As for Montgomery, he became the third player in franchise history to rush for at least 10 touchdowns in consecutive seasons. The other two are Sanders (1995-97, 1989-91) and Billy Sims (1980-81).

Both Montgomery and Gibbs have rushed for eight touchdowns in each of the last two seasons. The NFL hasn't seen a duo do that since Packers running backs Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor did from 1960-61. Both scored on Sunday, marking the ninth time they've done so. It sets a franchise record for any running duo.

Wide receiver Jameson Williams' first seven touchdown receptions have all been catches of at least 30 yards. The last NFL player whose seven-career receiving touchdowns were on 30+ yard plays was JJ Birden (1990-1992). Williams also now has three touchdown receptions of 50+ yards this season. This ties for the third-most in a season in franchise history and are the most since Calvin Johnson had three in 2013.

Safety Kerby Joseph became the first Lions player since James Hunter in 1976 to produce seven interceptions and a pick-six in a season. He also now has 15 career interceptions, tying for the most a Lions player has snagged through the first three seasons of a player's career since the 1970 merger.

Alex Anzalone is Detroit's first linebacker to post at least seven tackles for loss in three straight season since DeAndre Levy did it from 2012-14.
