Heading into a Sunday night showdown against the Minnesota Vikings, the Detroit Lions were one of five teams to never win the No. 1 seed in their respective conference.
That list is now down to four. Detroit kept its historic season rolling with a blowout 31-9 victory over the Vikings on Sunday night that saw the Lions win the NFC North, clinch the No. 1 seed in the conference and set the franchise record for wins in a season.
The story of the game was star running back Jahmyr Gibbs who totaled 170 yards and four touchdowns on the night, setting a Lions record for touchdowns in a season with 20 in the process. "We're obviously having a better season this year, and I think everybody is still counting us out a little bit, so being able to shut them up a little bit feels good," Gibbs told reporters after the game.
Not to be outdone, though, was quarterback Jared Goff, who completed 27-of-33 passing for 231 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Despite the turnovers, Goff made NFL history on Sunday night by becoming the only quarterback in league history to completed at least 72% of his passes while throwing for more than 4,500 yards, according to the Lions.

Following Sunday's win, Goff made it clear the job isn't finished for the Lions just yet. “It’s not the cherry on top,” he told reporters after the game. “Not yet.”
With the win, the Lions will get to sit back and relax while watching the wild card round of the playoffs before hosting a divisional round game. The Vikings, meanwhile, will go on the road to Los Angeles for a battle against the Rams.
